Many beginner modelers want to start by building a huge 100-gun ship of the line. Most of those very expensive kits get started but never finished. The job is much too complex and the poor builder hasn’t acquired the skills needed.

The three models "Grand Banks Dory", "Norwegian Pram", and "Bay Lobster Smack" are the 3 ideal models to start naval modeling and to follow a perfect training in the difficulties to be encountered for a progressive learning of this discipline.

Learn to build these 3 wooden boat and ship models in order.

Start with a traditional fisherman's Dory from the 1800s at skill level 1 (S029MS1470).

Continue at level 2 with a fully planked historical Norwegian Pram (S029MS1471).

For this second intermediate kit, some previous knowledge is necessary in order to be successful. If you have already built the Dory kit, you are well prepared. If you haven't, I strongly recommend you do so first, as you will learn valuable techniques, tips, and methods that will come in very useful for this model. I’d hate for you to give up in frustration because you lack some basics first.

The 44 illustrated pages will guide you through the construction of this wooden model of a Norwegian Pram.

Finally, the Bay Lobster Smack at level 3 (S029MS1472) will prepare you to build any larger wooden boat model, even a 100-gun warship.

If you want to acquire all 3 models in a single purchase, we offer a Promotional Offer with the Model Shipways Beginner's Pack (S029MS1470D).

French manual included, 44 illustrated pages.

History of Norwegian Prams:

Norwegian prams, also known as "norske pram," are traditional boats originating from Norway. They played an essential role in maritime history and the daily life of Norwegian coastal communities.

These boats were primarily used for fishing, transporting goods, and sometimes even for coastal navigation. Their design was adapted to the often challenging conditions of the Norwegian coast, with sturdy and stable hulls that could face the ocean waves.

One distinctive feature of Norwegian prams was their wooden construction, with planks joined using traditional carpentry techniques. This gave them remarkable strength and durability. Additionally, their design allowed for great maneuverability, making them versatile boats for a variety of tasks.

Over the centuries, Norwegian prams evolved to adapt to new technologies and the changing needs of society. They played a significant role in the economic and social development of Norwegian coastal communities.

Today, although traditional Norwegian prams have largely been replaced by more modern boats, they remain an important symbol of Norway's maritime history and are sometimes preserved as museum pieces or used in traditional events.

Norwegian prams have a rich and varied history, closely linked to maritime life and coastal activities in Norway. They testify to the tradition and ingenuity of Norwegian boat builders over the centuries.
