The Niña, also known as the Santa Clara, was one of the three caravels used by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage to the New World in 1492. Alongside the Santa Maria and the Pinta, the Niña played a crucial role in this historic expedition that marked the beginning of European discovery voyages to the Americas.

Dimensions of the assembled model: 340 x 100 x 360 mm (Length x Width x Height).

Scale 1/72.

The unique aspect of the DUSEK model is that the other two ships accompanying Christopher Columbus on his journey are also available under the same brand and at the same 1/72 scale.

If you are passionate about Christopher Columbus' ships, you can, with the DUSEK kits, build all three ships at a 1/72 scale, namely the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

The Niña was a small vessel, a caravel, which was lighter and more maneuverable than other ships of the time. Its relatively small size allowed it to explore shallow coastal areas and navigate challenging waters. It was commanded by Vicente Yáñez Pinzón, a Spanish sailor and explorer.

Although there are no precise drawings of the Niña, its hull length is generally estimated to be around 20 meters, with a displacement of about 100 tons. Like the other ships of the expedition, the Niña was equipped with sails and oars for versatile navigation.

The Niña accompanied the Santa Maria and the Pinta on Columbus's historic voyage. The three ships departed from the port of Palos de la Frontera, Spain, in August 1492, and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to the New World. After approximately two months at sea, the expedition's sailors spotted land on October 12, 1492, marking Columbus's arrival in America.

The Niña continued to play an important role in subsequent expeditions and was used for other exploratory voyages. While the exact details of its later history are less known than its inaugural journey with Columbus, the Niña remains a symbol of the early contacts between Europe and the New World and the era of great maritime discoveries.

The wooden model kits of the Santa Maria, the Pinta, and the Niña from DUSEK come with laser-cut wooden parts for precise and simplified construction. High-quality materials are used, and each kit is accompanied by detailed plans and assembly instructions to guide builders through each step of the process.
