The Sukhoi Su-30, designated in Russian "Сухой Су-30" and known under the NATO codename "Flanker-C," is a multi-role combat jet initially developed by the Soviet Union, and later by Russia. This model was developed to meet various military needs, standing out for its versatility and advanced capabilities.

The Su-30SM is a specialized variant of the Su-30MKM with thrust vectoring. It was specifically designed for the Russian military and produced by the Irkut Corporation. This new version integrates several improvements requested by the Russian military, such as updates to the radar, radio communication systems, identification friend or foe (IFF) system, ejection seats, armaments, and other internal systems of the aircraft. Notable equipment includes the Bars-R radar and a wide-angle head-up display.

A contract signed in March 2012 provided for the delivery of 60 aircraft by 2016. The Su-30SM made its first flight on September 21, 2012, marking a significant step in strengthening the capabilities of the Russian Air Force.
