Tuna fishing is a highly demanding profession that requires exceptionally robust and swift seafaring vessels. Various trials were conducted initially, with the experimented vessels being either too heavy or too weak, such as the chaloupes weighing around twenty tons.

After several trials, the current boat type was determined. The "Marie-Jeanne" is a Dundee weighing between 50 to 60 tons, with substantial sail area, crewed by a dozen men.

The Marie Jeanne, representing the culmination of the ideal tuna fishing vessel, is a Dundee of approximately 50 to 60 tons, rigged with numerous sails and capable of accommodating a crew of 12 men.

White tunny is captured using lines. Specialized fishing boats are equipped with 'tangons', long poles extending over 20 meters. These are placed on either side of the main mast and are lowered down on each side when the boat is engaged in fishing activities. Normally, each 'tangon' accommodates seven lines, interconnected by ropes. This configuration enables fishermen to haul the tunnies aboard without having to adjust the position of the 'tangons'. Additionally, two other lines are affixed to the stern, and often, a third, notably long line is secured to the top of the main mast. These lines culminate in a component known as the 'avancon', crafted from brass wire, where the fishing hook is attached. The bait is artificial, as the white tunny is known for its voracious appetite. For instance, the bait may consist of white hair combined with a small piece of corn straw.

Founded on the shores of the ancient maritime city of Concarneau, the Marie Jeanne is steeped in the maritime heritage that characterizes this region. For decades, our team of passionate craftsmen, inheritors of a long tradition of shipbuilding, has applied their expertise to the design and construction of exceptional vessels.

From meticulous planning to final adjustments, every phase of the Marie Jeanne's construction is executed with passion and expertise. Each element, from the keel to the superstructure, is shaped with precision and attention to detail, combining the sturdiest materials with cutting-edge technologies.
