LiPo batteries – Safety and usage instructions
LiPo (Lithium Polymer) batteries deliver high energy but require careful handling. Improper use may cause fire, serious injury, or property damage. Please read fully before first use.
General safety
- Not suitable for users under 14 years old. Adult supervision required.
- Follow all safety instructions strictly.
- The user assumes full responsibility for proper usage.
Charging guidelines
First charge
- Do not charge if the battery is swollen, damaged, or punctured.
- Inspect before each charge.
Charger
- Only use a LiPo-specific balance charger.
- Never use an incompatible charger.
Charge current
- Never exceed the manufacturer’s recommended charge rate.
- Wrong settings can cause overheating or fire.
Voltage
- Do not exceed 4.2V per cell.
- Confirm correct cell count and voltage settings before charging.
- Always charge on a non-flammable surface, away from objects, ideally in a LiPo safety bag.
Temperature
- Charge between 15°C and 35°C. Let the battery cool down before recharging.
Polarity
- Check that positive and negative terminals are correctly connected. Reverse polarity is dangerous.
Supervision
- Never charge a LiPo unattended.
- In case of heat or swelling, unplug immediately.
- If fire occurs, never use water—use sand to extinguish.
Usage
Voltage check
- Ensure cell voltage differences are within safe range:
- <30mV → OK
- 30–100mV → charge recommended
- 100mV → must recharge
Discharge
- Respect the maximum continuous discharge rate.
- Never discharge below 3.3V per cell (absolute minimum: 3.0V).
Temperature
- If surface temp exceeds 65°C, allow battery to cool fully.
- A swollen battery is unusable and must be disposed of.
Storage and transport
Transport
- Avoid shocks, heat, and vibrations.
- Use protective packaging during transport.
Long-term storage
- Store at 50% charge (approx. 3.8V per cell).
- Recharge every 3 months during inactivity.
Storage environment
- Store between -20°C and +40°C, away from moisture and corrosive gases.
Additional precautions
- Never disassemble, modify, puncture, or burn the pack.
- Keep away from heat sources and liquids.
- Never charge a LiPo inside a car or near the engine.
- Land your model as soon as power begins to drop.
- Keep batteries out of reach of children.
- In case of electrolyte contact:
- On skin → rinse with water and soap
- In eyes → rinse thoroughly and seek medical attention
End-of-life and recycling
Do not dispose of used or damaged batteries in household trash.
Take them to an authorized recycling center or contact your retailer or local authorities for proper disposal.
