The BIREME was a type of warship used by the Roman Empire during this period. It was a two-level rowing boat, with a row of rowers on each side of the ship.

These rowers were arranged in two superimposed rows, hence the term "bi-" meaning two. Biremes were fast, maneuverable, and well-suited for the naval tactics of the time. They were often used for reconnaissance missions, coastal patrols, and, of course, naval battles.

The distinctive feature of the Bireme was its rostrum (beak), a sharp prominence at the front of the ship used to ram the sides of enemy vessels during combat. The castle referred to the raised structure at the back or middle of the ship where the commander's quarters and other officers were often located.
