The Massbank tug was built in 1985 in the Netherlands on the order of Smit and Co’s International Sleepdiensten in Rotterdam. The Massbank served for 12 years on the western side of Holland, called Europoort. He also participated in several rescues at the North Sea and towed boats in regions from France to Norway. On September 1, 1977, he was transferred to a sister company, called Nieuwe Vlissingse Sleepdienst which was located in Vlissingen. There he was renamed Banckert.
